Originally published at orly-yarly. You can comment here or there. :p). Kaartje is 26 euro.

Foto’s hier!

As some of you may know, Google recently released a beta version of its browser, called Google Chrome. Google Chrome is said to be developed from scratch with the 'new Internet' (basically, Web 2.0) in mind: Websites aren't just static HTML pages anymore, nor serverside 'calculated' pages, but entire applications. Think of sites that host a plethora of Flash games, some other browser games and all that sort of thing. As a bonus, Google Chrome is open source. This basically means that the software is there for all to see, inspect, run and compile.
Now, there are a few people who actually think that Google spies on them. Some of those even go as far as believing that Google gathers what sites you visit on Chrome and that all that data is send to Google in secret. If you think logically for a second here, you'll soon figure out that this just can't be done. Two simple reasons:
- The people who believe that Google actually does that and who have some technical proficiency, will dig through the source code to find modules that do just that.
- Or they might install a packetsniffer to inspect every data package sent over their internet connection. And since you can't piggyback a package, you'll be forced to see the package that contains the information provided it exists.
Either way, sooner or later, those people will find out that some private information is being send to Google. That would generate so much negativity. So much, that Google will have a very hard time talking itself out of.
Now that we have that silly notion out of the way, here's a small piece from the old Google Chrome EULA that has been the cause of several twisting panties (the juicy part is bolded):
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.
11.2 You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.
11.3 You understand that Google, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users, may (a) transmit or distribute your Content over various public networks and in various media; and (b) make such changes to your Content as are necessary to conform and adapt that Content to the technical requirements of connecting networks, devices, services or media. You agree that this license shall permit Google to take these actions.
11.4 You confirm and warrant to Google that you have all the rights, power and authority necessary to grant the above license.
People who read that, think that whatever you publish via a Google Service (Picasa, GMail, Chrome, etc.), instantly becomes Google's. They missed these little sections, though (respectively section 9.4 and a part from 11.1):
9.4 Other than the limited license set forth in Section 11, Google acknowledges and agrees that it obtains no right, title or interest from you (or your licensors) under these Terms in or to any Content that you submit, post, transmit or display on, or through, the Services, including any intellectual property rights which subsist in that Content
And
This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.
It basically states that Google has absolutely zero rights of any kind on the materials you publish. The only materials used to promote Google services, are the materials that are not covered by copyright, intellectual property right and other rights applicable to user generated content.
Basically, this entire 'uproar' (if one can call it that) is due to either people not reading the entire document properly or a copy/paste error from previous EULA (If I remember right, Picasa has a similar clause in its EULA).
Update: After just refreshing the EULA of Chrome, they have changed section 11 to a lot less text. It is now:
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

It was rather amusing to see people freak out over something so trivial that they could've resolved themselves with some logical thinking and thorough reading.

"I feel like I have difficulty expressing myself in words. A lot of the time I don't think I put myself across the way that I intended or the way that I actually feel."
I don't really know who said it and I can't be bothered to figure out who it was in the first place. It's just true, which is what matters.
Anyway, I couldn't help but like this particular quote, since it seems to convey how I occasionally feel about expressing myself pretty accurately: I pretty much can't unless the person in question thinks like me. It's one of the (stupid) traits of being an introvert: I don't like repeating myself very much, especially when it comes to feelings. If I have to explain, it feels like I've missed my target in the first place.
...I really should stop starting pretty much everything I say with "I", shouldn't I? It sounds so egotistical.
In totally other news: There's butterflies everywhere around me and since I can't count them, so I might as well be overcome by them. :D And it feels so good. I can't wait. <3
(Darn. I'm becoming less and less clear with each passing entry, if you ask me.)
Ironic fact regarding the current track: I'm drinking. XD</size>

It's during nights like these that I wish I had some more nightcrawlers in my MSN contact list. I mean, it's 2:30 AM and there's barely anyone online that, when talked to, says more than a silly emoticon or a two word answer (you're free to add me if you feel you can defy this current state of affairs. I dare you.).
It's during nights like these that I end up browsing some profile sites for other nightcrawlers which are also potentially interesting. This can, occasionally, be fun because there actually are some interesting people out there. But they're damn hard to find and, as a result, pretty much every quest for new blood ends up being futile.
There seems to be a constant in all those profiles, though: Everyone loves the same music which can be summed up as "Everything". Everyone. Without fail. Needless to say, it's apparent that Jane Dough, who's from some obscure, small village that's not mentioned in any atlas that we know of and where the postal code is a fracture, who attends her local discotheque every saturday will rock out to Impaled Nazarene's "Goat Perversion". amirite?
To continue this trend of laziness, they do the following: When they've finished filling their brand new profile with one liners, short answers and other similar things, they close it off with: "Well, I hope you liked it. :)" or something to that extend when, in reality, you know absolutely bugger-all about that person, even after spending five whole minutes reading drivel everyone's written before. The only thing I end up knowing, is that if they don't take the time to write something, then the depths of their thoughts aren't much deeper than your average shallow river. I love being a programmer: It allows me to make use of genericity.
Still, I end up browsing profiles when I'm utterly bored, looking for new blood to talk to during the night. After all: One may never know what might pop up.
In more positive and less bitchy news: I don't bite. At least not hard. College is fun. I've missed this. Apparently, some people figured it was necessary to swap our keyboards, mouses and monitors around a bit and of course everyone denies any responsibility. This happened twice now, so we installed a webcam, initiated motion detection and now everytime someone moves, it is captured and uploaded to a server. :D That's not really what we should be doing in those rooms, but hey. It's fun. Of course, us being students means that we get a lot more fun out of that camera than just capturing potential people who want to swap our equipment around. :D
And I've got a practice lesson of aikido tomorrow. I can't wait to see how that goes.

First off, thanks to grizelda, I present to you some anti Valentine's Day cards. Use them wisely, especially on any day that's not the 14th of February.
The last few minutes of being 21 are ticking away. I'm not quite sure on what to say when it comes to that. Ah well, it'll be fun anyway. :D I'm not sure yet when it comes to celebrating it, yet. Getting people to come to this corner of The Netherlands tends to be a bitch and a half.
Aside from that, things are fine. A new semester has started and the group I'm in is awesome. We're all a bunch of idiots but we're also workers. Whatever product we're gonna whip up, will certainly kick much ass.
And if the entry sounds a tad lackluster, then it's because I'm sort of tired. So, instead of more drivel, I bring to you something much more awesome:

Though I'd probably replace it with something like: "wot? no root?". :D

Finally, something semi blogworthy!
First off: I'm almost done with internship. I only have a presentation to do this monday and then some paperwork for school and that's it. I'm sort of dreading it, but not completely. I can do it if I don't rehearse. I just need to know what to say. In retrospect, the 100 days flew by. But I'll never take up an internship again if it's not within walking distance. ...Knowing me, I'll probably end up somewhere on the other side of the globe when you regard my moving habits. But that's a minor detail.
After that, I'll have two whole weeks off in which I have to do some paperwork for school. Aside from the paperwork, that's made of win. <3
Last friday rocked. I went to a friend's place and we ended up playing Guitar Hero all night. We bought one crate of beer (24x33cl) and pretty much downed the entire crate in the course of the evening and night. Too bad we didn't feel too much of it, so we could still play coherently. Sort of. But the pictures were awesome. Our host failing at Hangar 18 (while I was breezing through the song) made us dub him "Use Koninklijke Faalheid" (or "Your Royal Failness"). We had fun. I fell asleep during the movie we watched thanks to all the beer I had. But not before we rocked out at Hangar 18.
Then earlier today we decided to go to the super market to fix some breakfast. Which would've worked if our host didn't forget his keys. Which we found out while standing before the door. We aptly redubbed him "Uwe Goddelijke Faalheid" (or "Your Divine Failness"). Since his name is Vincent, we immediately created a new adjective while we were at it: "Vincelijk" ("Vincely" would be the proper English term). Now there are several degrees of failure: Normal failure, Big failure, Royal failure and Vincelijk Falen (a "Vincely Failure")
Of course, the day wouldn't be complete if we didn't have Murphy on our sides: Not only did Vincent leave his keys in the house, he also didn't have his phone with him and he doesn't remember any phone number. So we ended up taking the train to a nearby place to pick up a key to his frontdoor. In the train back, he's like "I certainly hope that this is not the key to the backdoor". So we were shitting bricks until we finally entered the front door. :D
Anyway, it was a good weekend. I had a good time, there were awesome pictures, slept well and we got to eat chicken. Hell yeah.

To anyone on Hyves who reads this: What you're reading right now are my Livejournal entries which can be found here. Powerglove - Red Wings Over Baron |

Do you folks like metal?! Do you folks like videogames?! Do you folks like the combination of metal and videogames?
If you answered "yes", "yes", and "hell yeah!", then read on. If you didn't, then still read on, because the massive can of whoopass that I'm about to introduce you to, is bound to change your mind.
I introduce you guys to Powerglove. Powerglove (named after the similarly named NES accessory) is a videogame power metal band. Can't imagine anything when I say that? Think of your favourite videogame melody. Now imagine it being played on two electric guitars, a bass and a set of drums. Sound kickass? Sure does! They mostly play familiar melodies. So far, I've managed to recognize The Legend Of Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy VII, VI and IV, F-Zero, Megaman, Tetris, Castlevania, Sonic and The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.
They've released one EP called "Total Pwnage" and if you're anything like me, then you'll immediately agree when I say that it does its name justice. They've also released an album named "Metal Combat for the Mortal Man". And the music on it sounds even more kickass than the name itself.
To complete my argument in favour of the band: Here is Mario Minor. If that doesn't convince you, then I don't know what will.
On a closing note: Do you folks like coffee? Real coffee from the hills of Columbia?
